Seven Bells

Picture
Seven Bells (2020) 3.5m by 2.3m Wall Hanging , Oil on canvas plus gold and silver leaf with mosaic /fabric

The Painting  Seven Bells has taken me over 20 years to complete. It depicts the process we call “Human Revolution” which is the transformation of one individual through chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.

This transformation of courage, wisdom and compassion through their word thought and deed, study of Nichiren Daishonins writings and sharing with others, radiates through that person’s entire environment - one person then another and another are inspired to, practice and do their “Human Revolution”. This process has so far  created positive change  in 51 countries, today we have membership in 192 countries and territories around the globe. This change will effect the present, 7 generations back and 7 generations forward and will continue within the Seven Bells. Over the years of developing this painting my own “Human Revolution” included recovering from the death of my youngest daughter and my own illness.

The painting’s title is due to the fact
Seven Bells are hidden within the composition. They represents the great vision of Daisaku Ikeda that I and others practising share.  Seven Bells correspond with the ringing in of a new bell every seven years until the year 5000. The number also correspond to the seven characters of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo which is the basic practice we chant everyday.

Creating the Seven Bells Wall Hanging

Karen Ingelbrecht  from  PenKraft Hobby Store Cheriton, Folkestone, Kent
comes up with art logistics to help local artists bring their creativity to the finished article. For this project she hand-stitched lengths of canvas to the artwork to evoke the ethos of a hung tapestry.
